vsnautorec is the ingest system which allows simultaneous recordings from tapes, various satellite feeds and/or studios, using automatic or manual mode. Regular recordings can be programmed into a list to the exact hour and day from news agencies.

vsnautorec director controls an audio/video router and intelligently routes the satellite video signal to one of the available recording stations. Captured material, stored in servers by categories, supports simultaneous multi-editing one minute after the recording is started, with the advanced feature of chunking technology.

vsnautorec capture are dedicated ingest stations which encode video in the following formats: DV25, MPEG-2 4:2:0, MPEG-2 4:2:2 at 50 Mbps and Windows Media 9.

To view vsnautorec interface.

vsnautorec terminal allows the journalist to digitise recordings from his/her PC accessing shared feeds and remotely controlling shared VTR's connected to an A/V router through dedicated capture stations. Users can control VTR's remotely without A/V cabling in the newsroom. Moreover, the system manages waiting lists for accessing VTRs which avoids overlaps with scheduled and manual captures from feeds.

Everything is controlled from journalists PC's, with low resolution capture previews using Windows Media 9 streaming. The system creates a low resolution copy of ingested material in background for later browsing and editing use, while preserving network bandwith for high resolution editing. vsnautorec covers all ingest needs with a user friendly environment, that any non-technical personal can learn, avoiding the need of dedicated technicians.

vsnnetsharer, vsnarchive's on-line module, is the content manager of the entire vsn network. This software allows journalists, editors, postproduction teams and anyone else, to quickly find video material stored on line in video servers from their PCs. Given that it is linked with the archiving system, clips can be retrieved from near or off line storage. Clips are classified into categories without hard drive paths and a powerful text browser finds key words in the database. Once found, video files can be reviewed in low resolution Windows Media 9 format.

Avanced editing stations
vsnnetsharer is the tool used by all NLE's to register and copy their projects (spots, flashes or even programs) directly to vsnmatic playouts in the master control room. This way, the use of VTRs, tapes and displacements are avoided. All footage is transferred through the network in a tape-less TV operation.

vsnnews is a powerful, entirely integrated news system that allows text/video editing in the same application. Optimum workflow is guaranteed from the drawing board until the news reaches the air. It covers all issues in a uniform environment, including rundown planning and creation, resource management, word processing, video feed recordings, and archive storage, organization, and cataloguing. The system is completely integrated with vsnarchive system, the real-time titling system, the teleprompter, and the automated web publishing of news. Also included in the seamless integration is the shared video and audio editing, with voice over from journalists computers.

Processing
Journalists start capturing news images from their PC's using vsnautorec. During the ingest process, the journalist can already start the editing process, not only editing video but also introducing text and titles through templates. Once validated they are automatically sent to the prompter, and added in the voice over with predefined duration calculated by the software. Approved titling con be sent to the CG and any changes are synchronized and updated in all workstations featuring the studio producer, that can preview the video clips and re-edit them from any PC.

Publishing and Archive

While the playout is on air, any part of the rundown sequence can be changed, added or deleted up to the very moment that it is aired. vsnnews publishes news automatically to a website, sending streaming video in WM9, text and pictures to the different website categories.

A remote rundown viewer allows journalist to see what is happening during the playout

vsnarchive is fully integrated into vsnnews. The journalist can start pre-cataloguing raw material and the cataloguer can finish the procedure and empty the daily servers by sending material to tape or robots, and leaving a low resolution copy that is always On Line.

Independent from the editor
The most popular editing systems can be integrated into vsnnews, i.e. Vegas Video, Pinnacle, Premiere, Avid and Canopus among others.

Support includes high resolution editing in real time and low resolution editing which can be later reconstructed into high resolution for on air.

Low resolution editing with effects
vsnnews allows up to hundreds of journalists to edit low resolution Windows Media 9 videos simultaneously over the network. Even more, many video effects can be edited in the low resolution version such as transitions, filters, etc., to be later consolidated into a high resolution version, contrary to other systems that only allow "clean-cut" EDL editing and voice over.

vsnstorage is the shared storage of the entire working network. It is a low cost storage hardware solution, designed to support all stations working at full capacity. vsnnetsharer software application allows balanced loads and creating architectures with different servers. Each server supports 25 users editing simultaneously in high resolution DV 25.

Servers come in a mountable Rack format (1,2 and 3U) based on standard Gigabit Ethernet and Fiber Channel technology, with a storage capacity from 75 hrs up to 300 hrs in high resolution DV25.

Maximum data security with RAID 0,1,2,3,5 and 6 support. Three redundant Power Supply and hot swappable drives with a complete set of alarms in case of any kind of trouble.

Clustering configuration supports double On Air servers that connected to a redundant Play Out (optional) guarantees on air signal even in case of problems. Servers administration can be done based on a web interface.

vsnarchive is a Media Asset Management system with an advanced DAM (Digital Asset Manager) that covers all aspects of ingest, catalogue, storage (whether it be on-line, near-line or off-line), browsing, tape management and distribution.

With vsnarchive you can digitise thousands hours of low resolution video on-line, immediately available for browsing and previewing from any network terminal or through Internet. Material in high resolution can be stored in a near-line data tape robot or in off-line video tapes with bar-coded stickers. The bar-coding of off-line tapes allows the system to instantly identify the off-line tapes, its contents and other pertaining information.

Cataloguing
Journalists can start pre-cataloguing images which have been previously stored in high resolution in servers' hard drives. The cataloguing process is achieved through the use of templates, adding general metadata such as description, category, journalist, cameras, and key words. It includes digital rights management (DRM) and partial cataloguing through segments within the same material.

Archiving
Cataloguers archive materials by organizing and placing them into categories for later near or off line storage. At the same time vsnarchive generates a low resolution copy of the material to be kept permanently on-line.

In off-line storage, the system keeps track of which tapes are not full in a particular category to be able to completely fill them. If there are no tapes with enough space for the material, a new tape will be started and the system will generate a barcode sticker with the chosen format, including EBU-IBTN for tape identification.

Search
The searching module installed in the journalists' PCs allows complete database searches of phrases and key words using logical conditions. Once found, users can preview the video in low resolution, and then mark IN and OUT points, to ask the cataloguer only for the high resolution video segment needed.

Material can be retrieved in one of three ways: asking for a loan of the original tape, a copy of the material in a new tape or copy of the material in the server's hard drive. If material happens to be in near-line storage, it will be automatically brought on-line without the intervention of an operator. In the event that the material happens to be off-line (in tape) vsnarchive automatically notifies the cataloguer the tape's identification code and its physical location. When the cataloguer introduces the tape into a VTR, the system automatically reads the barcode and intelligently brings on-line only the segment requested by the user.

Customisable
vsnarchive includes an API plugin, allowing customization to a particular need of a client by using cataloguing and browsing pro-forms. It can even be integrated with other databases or external programs.

vsnairnews is an automated play out terminal that allows several journalists from different PC's to simultaneously work in a synchronised way, on the same rundown that is broadcasted.

Any user with permissions can make changes, remotely from any PC, in the rundown in real time, which will be immediately updated in all the vsnairnews terminal connected.

vsnairnews sends text to the teleprompter and inserts titles. If the sequence of the rundown changes, it automatically changes texts in prompter and CG in a synchronised way without any operator.

Automation: the rundown is not a simple playlist of video files. It allows camera IN's with duration for intros, external feeds and VTRs can be operated manually or automatically. With an external keypad control, audio/video mixers can be controlled remotely through a RS422 connection.

vsnairnews can automatically control the video mixer, apply transitions, and insert video effects for camera-video transitions in a fully unattended way, without any operator. Otherwise it could be controlled even by the anchor.

Duration clocks tell Directors the current program duration, time under runs, and over runs, and allow adjustments and changes in the rundown up to 5 seconds before particular material goes On Air. It can also operate as a slave playout controlled by third parties through MOS protocol.

vsnairnews is the first multi-format playout in the market, completely independent of the video compression of files in the rundown, whether it be DV, DVCAM, DVCPRO, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, M-JPEG, MXF, WM9 and switchable to HD. All files can be placed in the same rundown without rendering or transcoding of any kind. It is also compatible with the most popular NLE's (Vegas Video, Pinnacle, Adobe Premiere, Avid, Canopus, Final CutPro etc.).

It is a powerful and low-cost titling module for the vsn system, it allows the insertion of titles, text, images and backgrounds easily through an easy and clear interface. Its operation is automated from the journalists News remote terminals, vsnnews, and from the news playout machine, vsnairnews.
From the News playout we can:
  • Put titlings automatically on playlist lines: vtrs, stage, cameras, satellite lines and any other contents source.
  • Program the playlist so it inserts a template at a defined time.
  • Define user actions, to show or hide templates or logos.
  • Create templates with text parameters so they can be reused in different situations, for example, a unique template for different journalists.
  • Design templates to show graphics, statistics or insert real pictures related to the news being broadcasted.
  • Embed analog and digitcal clocks, counters, chronometers and countdowns. These all have individual control panels that provide quick and clear operation.

For additional information on the features and benefits of the character generator, vsncg, follow this link.

vsnprompter is the teleprompter module which is integrated into the playout. Like the titling module, it receives texts edited by the journalists and reflects and synchronises any changes in the rundown. It also displays the playout counters in case that the anchor wants to run the program. It also supports UNICODE characters and is compatible with more than 800 languages such Arab, Asian, Russian and Greek among others.

It can operate in an integrated fashion in the vsn network or as a completely independent solution with operator. It includes pedals and keypad and a plug-in for Microsoft Word.

Optionally, it can be acquired with a metallic structure and a 15" TFT at a very reasonable price.

vsnnews publishes news automatically to a website, sending streaming video in WM9, text and pictures to the different website categories.

vsnrecpro is the ingest module for shared VTRs. VTRs and router are controlled by RS-422 and RS-232 . T he editors can manage the system through TCP/IP commands that allow them to program batch captures and even external feeds programmed ingest's very easily.

This cost-efficient software manages queues and waiting lists, advising users through an internal instant messag ing system.

vsnscenes, the new low-cost editor, allows low resolution proxy preview in variable speed straight from the chosen format (XDCAM and soon P2) and selection of a list of clips or sub-clips. This process generates an EDL. The equivalent high resolution content will be automatically uploaded to the shared videoservers thus allowing instant emission from playouts or editing from NLEs.

If the VTR is connected to a sole workstation, system manages users’ queues and controls MXF device from any of the Ethernet remote terminals.

vsnscenes also enables the management of the associated metadata, fully automatic disk content upload, creating EDLs on the lo-res content, voice-over, import of the EDL created by the cameraman or deck operator. Finally, the system allows the selection of MXF as the standard format for the rest of the tapeless workflow or a loseless transcoding to AVI for the selected hi-res files.

vsnscenes is JustEdit’s new demonstration of how to adapt and open their developments to the state-of-the-art technology made by third party brands, such as Sony’s XDCAM. All content transfers are done as fast as the deck’s magnetic head is able to handle.

vsnscenes implies a revolution in the way live programming is produced, due to the extensive use of the new random access media along with the managed production systems in a transparent and easy way.
